  • KCREGAP, and many greyhound rescue groups around the country, have periods where we have saved a number of older adult greyhounds. They come to us from many different sources, some for legitimate reasons; some because they have been breeding stock; and some come from shelters because people's lifestyle's have changed, they have not considered their pets, and as the dogs become inconvenient, they have been dumped. All of these precious babies desperately need homes. They have many years of unconditional love to give families. Although it is reasonable to be concerned that you may not have them as long as a younger grey, there are never any guarantees. We have had two year olds die of unforeseen illnesses. These guys desperately need a chance. Another unfortunate side effect is that they take so much longer to place than a younger dog, our program cannot bring in those dogs that are ultimately being destroyed because our foster homes and kennel are full of mature greyhounds waiting to be chosen. The older dogs typically go into a home with very little transitional problems and settle in like they have been there all their lives and are eternally grateful for a soft spot to curl up on and share your love and affection! As you're looking at the bios following this paragraph, please consider taking one of these special greyhounds into your hearts—we promise you that you will never regret it (and you may even become like many of us—preferring to live with the older kids)!

      Hi! I'm Chili-dog and I am "Hot Stuff" -- just ask me! My favorite food is banana, and oh, blueberries. I do love other kinds of treats too though! Nap time is a favorite hobby of mine. Oh, and I'm handsome! I overheard my foster parents saying how they think I have come along so well in my house manners. People are STILL accusing me of leaving doors open but I am innocent I tell you! I think it's my foster brothers playing jokes on me (greyhound, lab or weiner-- I am not sure which). You might be able to guess by now I have ALOT of personality! Did I mention handsome? I'm loving and a genious. I've perfected a new kind of kiss called "The Flying,4-Off-The-Floor Nose Poke". When my foster parents come home, I am so happy to see them, all 4 feet come off the floor (not touching them at all), and I give a cold wet one with my nose on their cheeks (or their eyes if I miss---okay,maybe not quite perfected yet). I get them laughing SO hard. You should see it... REALLY! Maybe even feel it yourself?

Lounging on her bed (the one you used to think of as yours) is another favorite past time, however, in a pinch she will make do with a regular dog bed--the girl is flexible. Don't let her age discourage you... she has a young spirit and loves to Velcro herself to your side.

She's very dainty when she takes a treat, so much so that she usually drops it the first time she trys to take it from you. And when he's not spinning in circles his tail is going in a circle when he does a play bow -- which he does all the time! He chases the squirrels in the backyard and barks at his reflection in the neighbor's glass patio doors. He's not too sure about the hardwood floors in the house so he walks very carefully across them. He's not afraid to knock any other dog out of the way when it comes to getting a scratch behind the ears. Nicholas is a source of constant amusement who would probably do best in a home with another dog to keep him company.

      This little imp is full of life and love. She is very affectionate, sweet and cuddly.Our little girl is maturing into a lovely young lady. Lately she had begun to copycat her foster sister, so cute! They sunbathe at the same time in separate yards. Tiki has her own escape proof play yard at her foster home and she just loves to run laps, and is a joy to watch. Rain or shine, she doesn't care, run, run, run. She is doing very well in foster but has been with us for much too long due to special requirements. This little doll has special fence requirements. 5-6' is preferred, but especially no possible escape spots along the bottom either! She needs a companion, and he/she must be her size or bigger-- about the size of an Australian Shepard. No small dogs or cats for this one. Tiki is looking for love! Is she looking for you?
